This advert by Sainsburys is about a kind gesture in a cruel time and how Christmas is about giving. The Christmas truce in world war two is well known as two armies who had spent the past few months trying to kill one and other came together and for one day were not sworn enemies but were now friends from two completely different worlds. Promoting the idea that Christmas is for sharing, the ad reminds you that even in darkness there is some light. This ad uses a method of advertising which plays on the emotions of adults. It is set in world war two army trenches. The singing is quite unusual and is likely to grab some viewers attention. Another way in which this advert will grab viewers attention is by having a very dark atmosphere that is not often used in commercials which will separate this advert from other more joyful Christmas and even regular adverts. It will also shock some viewers because war is very unexpected in every day television adverts. Rather than selling a product they are selling the company and brand by giving it an image, which helps them because after watching this the viewer is more likely to want to donate to The Royal British Legion which will make you think of charity when you think of Sainsburys and will be more likely to shop there.

This is the John Lewis Christmas advert from 2014 it is called Monty The Penguin and it is about a boy who has a toy penguin that he believes is lonely and needs a girl friend so when he opens his first present on Christmas he finally has a girl friend for his penguin ‘ Monty ’. By releasing this advert and having it on during daytime television and not just after watershed it allows many kids to see it and want the same thing. This will lead to parents getting it for their children and in order to do this they will need to visit the store or at least the website, by doing this they open themselves up to being persuaded to buy more things from John Lewis. The advert also uses the imagination of children to remind adults of their childhood toys and what it was like to be a kid around Christmas time, this will make adults more likely to buy this toy and many others for their children. They are likely to do this so that their kids can have thesame experiences that they did as a child. It also reminds them of a time when kids wanted stuffed animals instead of things like computers, phones, game consoles and tablets and they actually had to use their imagination to have fun.

The Heathrow airport advert that was made and aired in 2018 is about being able to make it home to Christmas because it wants to make people think of family reuniting and a family Christmas so that people will see this advert and automatically see it as a respectful and kind company that focus on making families reunite. The company also wants to be seen as if they will let you book a last minute flight even in a time that is as busy as Christmas because family is very important to them. This is shown by the grand mother and grand farther talking to their family on a video chat app and looking sad as the video chat ends. It is also shown by the family quickly packing their clothes and going to the airport. This is finally shown by the family clearly being surprised when the grand mother and grand father appearing at the families door. Given the reaction of the family they clearly see this as some sort of Christmas miracle, which is being able to travel such a long distance in such a short amount of time with out having to have months of planning before the trip which would suggest that Heathrow airport is the only airport that can make these trips with such short planning time and requiring months of preparation. This is made obvious by the families insane reaction to how such an event occurred.
