The trip to countdown in Manchester was very informative, now I understand how game shows work and how certain aspects of filming work. We watched 2 shows back to back and both times mistakes were made during filming and as a result of this they had to re create the parts that went wrong after the initial show so that they could edit it in.

Proposal

Me and my group plan on filming a short documentary about William and Sam, two brothers who are 7. they are identical twins, one has autism and one doesn’t so we are going to show what the differences between them are.

Research

I have watched multiple louis theroux documentaries and also documentaries about mental health and autism in order to understand it more and learn how to not cross any legal or ethical lines because that could cause issues. I have also made a

Proposal writing

Writing the proposal was good. I was expecting it to be easy to explain what idea we had.  During the write-up it was fluid with minimal breaks and pauses for thought. During the write-up we felt that we were explaining the idea well and it did not take us too long to complete.

feedback

The feedback we received from our proposal was mainly to have the presentation sorted. We did not have this because we were not planning on presenting a powerpoint of our idea, we were going to say what our idea was instead. This is because we think that our idea would not have fit into a powerpoint and it would have been better to say it. Also, we needed to have presented our idea in more depth and detail in terms of describing things about Joe’s brothers and their autism. We found this hard because Joe was ill on that day and me and Alex didn’t know enough about Joe’s brothers to speak confidently on them. We also needed to include what we actually wanted people to take from the documentary.

Pre-production

Pre production made it clear what we needed to do to make the documentary as best it can be. Some of the work that we completed in this time includes information on legal and ethical, an equipment list, shot list, budget, risk assessment and some analysis of documentaries.

Production

We took a couple of videos and looked at them to see what we needed to change for the videos that we plan on taking later. As a group we reviewed the footage and looked at what needed to be changed. We concluded that the videos needed to be more natural when interviewing them we need to catch them whilst doing something they would be normally, rather than pulling them aside.

we went to joe’s house to film the twins and  interview joes mom ( Maxine steeples ) and we took all of the footage and started editing it on final cut pro. I managed to get more than half of the footage on to the computer in the correct order but then lessons finished.

post production

I have finished editing and I am going to catch up on all the work on my blog because that is all I have left to do.

presentation

my presentation went well the feedback I got was very useful, I was told to only use auto focus when necessary and the audio needed balancing  because some of it was too loud or too quiet. I was also told to use three point lighting so that the interviewee looked more professional.
